Der hübsche frühere TV-Kinderstar hat mit uns über ihre Musik (sie hat 'ne neue CD!), Pläne und Verehrer geplaudert.
Ausserdem bekamen wir zwei handsignierte Exemplare ihres neuen Albums , die wir verlosten..

RockTimes: Wie bist du mit deinem neuen Album "Photograph" zufrieden?
Anna: Im Großen und Ganzen bin ich ganz glücklich darüber, wie es geworden ist, da ich aber auch ziemlich selbstkritisch bin, haben mich einige Dinge immer noch nicht ganz zufriedengestellt. Ich glaube eh nicht, dass ich jemals mit einem eigenen Album 100-prozentig zufrieden sein werde. Auf der anderen Seite ist das ganz gut, so bleibt mein Blick immer nach vorn gerichtet.

RockTimes: Wie war die Resonanz von Außen?
Anna: Sehr zwiespältig. Einige Kritiker liebten es und empfanden es als sehr ehrlich und authentisch, andere beurteilten es als zu salopp und zu unkommerziell produziert.

RockTimes: Bist du erstaunt darüber, dass deine Platten in einem Rockmusikmagazin besprochen werden?
Anna: Ja und nein, zum einen sind zweifellos Rockelemente auf dem Werk enthalten, aber es ist natürlich kein reines Rockalbum

RockTimes: Bei Promo-CDs sind die Infos ja meist sehr begrenzt. Mit welchen Musikern hast du "Photograph" eingespielt?
Anna: Alle Musiker, abgesehen von einem der Gitarristen welcher Schwede ist, sind aus L.A.. Ich hatte viele Diskussionen mit Darryl meinem Produzenten, bevor wir mit der Produktion begannen. Ich wollte Musiker, die nicht den typischen glatten und perfekten L.A.-Sound verkörpern, sondern doch etwas grober und rauer zur Sache gehen.

RockTimes: Wie entsteht ein Anna-Sahlene-Song?
Anna: Der Weg ist eigentlich immer recht unterschiedlich. Aber als Beispiel, wenn ich gänzlich alleine schreibe, kreiere ich zuerst die Melodie und den Text, obwohl ich die Akkorde schon immer im Kopf habe. Manchmal aber lasse ich mich auch von einem Gitarren-Riff inspirieren und führe dann die Melodie weiter. Zum Teil versuche ich auch Musik auf einen bereits exsistierenden lyrischen Text zu übertragen, was oftmals auch sehr anregend ist, wobei die Worte ja schon einen natürlichem Rhythmus unterliegen.

RockTimes: Wie hat sich dein Debütalbum "It's Been A While" verkauft?
Anna: Noch nicht gut genug, haha, zufrieden bin ich erst, wenn es in Deutschland mit Platin ausgezeichnet wurde..!

RockTimes: Das Album erschien mir doch sehr traditionell poporientiert, wie kam es auf "Photograph" zur Einbindung von mehr "schwarzen" Einflüssen aus Soul, Reggae oder Gospel? Selbst gewollt oder von Label und Produzent vorgeschrieben?
Anna: Die Stücke, die ich schrieb, kamen irgendwie auf mich zu. Es ist sicherlich viel authentischer als mein erstes Werk. Ich habe immer sehr viel ‚schwarze' Musik gehört, und habe auch fast zehn Jahre einem Gospel-Chor angehört. Zusätzlich war ich auch schon Frontfrau in einer Soul-Band.

RockTimes: Ich schrieb in meinem ersten Review, dass deine Musik durchaus New-Country-kompatibel wäre (Shania Twain, Faith Hill, SheDaisy etc.), zwei Songs hatten durch Dobrofills auch einen "leichten" Bezug. Was hältst du von dieser Art Musik, und könntest du dir vorstellen, mal mit den Nashville Studio-Assen zusammenzuarbeiten?
Anna: Ganz ehrlich, ich habe da ein großes Problem: Ich liebe zu viele Musikrichtungen zu sehr. Ich tu mich schwer, mich einem festgelegten Genre unterzuordnen. Bezüglich des ersten Werkes hast du absolut recht, bei einigen Nummern wurde ich stark von Sheryl Crow inspiriert. Klar, es wäre sicherlich interessant, mal eines Tages in Nashville mit den Musikern und Songwritern zu kollaborieren, aber im Moment fühle ich mich nicht in diese Richtung hingezogen.

RockTimes: Welche Songs sind auf "Photograph" aus deiner Sicht Highlights und warum?
Anna: Natürlich der Titelsong, "Photograph" ist definitiv das beste Lied, das ich jemals geschrieben habe. Er fühlt sich so real und zeitlos zugleich an, ich meine auch in den Siebzigern hätte er beispielsweise toll geklungen. Er ist sehr natürlich. Auch den Text mag ich sehr.

RockTimes: Spielst du auch selbst Instrumente?
Anna: Ich habe viele Jahre Cello und Oboe gespielt, neuerdings spiele ich ein wenig Gitarre

RockTimes: Wann und wo tritt Anna Sahlene live auf? Gibt es Pläne für Deutschland?
Anna: Ich werde Ende November in Deutschland in ein paar Radio- und Fernseh-Shows präsent sein. Leider sind bis jetzt noch keine Konzerte gebucht, geplant sind aber definitiv welche.

RockTimes: Du warst in Schweden ein TV-Kinderstar (Kinder von Bullerbü). Ich las, dass du auch Halle Barry für die schwedische Ausgabe ihres neuen Films synchronisiert hast. Gibt es auch Schauspielangebote? Wird Anna das neue Bond-Girl? :-)
Anna: Haha…James Bond könnte ich doch wohl nicht ablehnen, oder? Aber im Ernst, ich habe im Moment keine Angebote, mein Fokus liegt ja momentan auch woanders.

RockTimes: Bei deinem blendenden Aussehen, wie viele männliche Verehrer muss Anna Sahlene jeden Tag abwimmeln? :-)
Anna: Ha ha ha ha ha… du hast mich wohl noch nicht in meinem richtigen Leben gesehen. Trotzdem danke für das Kompliment, aber ehrlich gesagt glaube ich nicht , dass ich viele männliche Fans habe. In der Hinsicht sind sie meistens sehr still.

RockTimes: Welchen Hobbies gehst du in deiner Freizeit nach?
Anna: Hobby Nummer Eins ist sicherlich Reisen. Ich bin gerade erst von einem zweimonatigen Trip aus New York zurück. Dazu kommen Lesen, Kochen und manchmal ein bisschen Feiern.

RockTimes: Welche Zukunftspläne hast du?
Anna: Ein neues, noch besseres Album aufnehmen und auch in Zukunft eine schöne Zeit verbringen.

RockTimes: Are you satisfied with your new album "Photograph"?
Anna: Over all I´m really happy about how it came out, but being very self critic, there are a few things I´m still being a little bothered about… I don´t think I´ll EVER be 100% happy with my own album. But that´s on the other hand a good thing, because I always want to keep on moving forward.

RockTimes: How was the response from outside?
Anna: Very much two ways! Some critics loved it thought the album was "genuine and real-sounding", while others thought it as too sloppy and un-commercially produced.

RockTimes: Are you surprised that your albums were criticized in a rockmusic-magazine?
Anna: Both yes and no, I can understand it since there´s a lot of rock-element on the album, even if it´s not at all a pure rock-album.

RockTimes: On promo-cds the information is often rather limited, with what kind of musicians did you produce "Photograph"?
Anna: All the musicians, except from one of the guitar players who´s Swedish, are players from L.A. I had a lot of discussions about the musicians with Darryl, my producer, before we started the production. I wanted musicians that didn´t have the typical slick and perfect LA-sound, but were a little bit grittier and raw.

RockTimes: How is an Anna-Sahlene-Song created
Anna: It can be in every different way imaginable… But for example, if I write entirely on my own, I create the melody and the lyrics first, although I always hear the chords in my head. Other times a get inspired by a guitar-riff and create a melody from there. Recently I´ve tried to write music to an already existing lyric, which is also very inspiring, since words already have a natural rhythm.

RockTimes: Do you feel satisfied with the overall sales figures of your debut album "It's Been A While"?
Anna: Not yet ha ha… Not until I get a platinum record in Germany…!

RockTimes: The album seemed to me pretty traditionally pop-orientated, how did it turn to more "black" influences from Soul, Reggae or Gospel on "Photograph"? Own intention or regulation by label and producer?
Anna: The songs I wrote just came out that way. It´s definitely more me than my first album. I´ve always been listening to a lot of black music, and I was in gospel-choir for ten years. I´ve also been the lead-singer of a soul band.

RockTimes: In my first review I wrote, that your music is quite possibly New-Country-compatible (Shania Twain, Faith Hill, SheDaisy etc.), two songs had due to the integrated dobro-fills a "low" reference. What's your opinion about this kind of music and perhaps could you imagine to work with those Nashville-studio aces one day?
Anna: Honestly: one big problem that I have, is that I love ALL good music too much. I have problems with just picking one genre to stick to. You´re quite right about the first album, though. I guess my biggest inspirations on those songs were Sheryl Crow. I´d love to go to Nashville some day to collaborate with the songwriters and musicians there, But right now I don´t feel that I´m heading in that direction

RockTimes: What songs on "Photograph" are highlights from your point of view and why?
Anna: Definitely the title song, Photograph. It´s the best I´ve ever written. To me it feels very real and also timeless, by that I mean that the song just as well could have been written in the 70:s, and still sound great. It´s just very natural. I like the lyrics, too.

RockTimes: Do you play any instruments?
Anna: I used to play the cello and the oboe for many years. But nowadays I just play a little guitar.

RockTimes: Are there any plans concerning Anna Sahlene's live-concerts, maybe in Germany, too?
Anna: I will come to Germany in the end of November to do a few live radio- and TV-shows. Unfortunately there are no gigs booked so far, but there are definitely plans about doing it.

RockTimes: In your childhood you used to be a TV-star in Sweden. I read that you dubbed Halle Berries new movie for the Swedish version of her new film. Do you have any new offers as an actress? Will Anna Sahlene be the new Bond-Girl? *g*
Anna: Ha ha…well, I couldn't turn down James Bond, could I? No seriously, I don´t have any offers right now… I like acting, but that´s not where my focus is.

RockTimes: How many male devotes does Anna have to shake off every day because of her stumming good looks?*g*
Anna: Ha ha ha ha ha… Listen, baby, you haven´t seen me in real life… Thank you for the compliment, but honestly I don´t know if I have a lot of guy fans. In that case they are pretty quiet!

RockTimes: What kind of hobbies do you have in your free-time?
Anna: My number one hobby is travelling. I just came home a few days ago from a two months trip from New York. Otherwise I like reading, cooking, sometimes partying.

RockTimes: What are your plans for the future?
Anna: Record a new even better album and have a good time.
